Videos of my singing my songs can be seen on YouTube and Vimeo here: 'The Fox Poem' (an anti fox hunting song), 'No Atmosphere', 'Nature is best', 'The Greed Feed', 'Bible Stories', 'New Age', 'This Place', 'He Gave us', 'Today' and 'Taking from Earth'. This is part of a private but very public working in progress project. Songs were written twenty years ago. This is for the person who I was that wouldn't have been able to do it, and all those who are withdrawn too. I hope it doesn't take you twenty years to do it. I hadn't picked up my guitar in anger as it were since then. Learn more via the Songs page.
And videos I have done for survivors guest poems. A big thank you for the respect shown and trust to not only read these poems but to do videos and share them with you all: 'The wishing seat by Sherry Dunn', 'I will not treat you like that by Laurie Ann Smith', 'Princess by Wendi Kelly' and 'I will be strong by Karen Russell'.
On my other channel you can see a fun video I did called 'Wildlife with John'
They can also be viewed on the Spoken Word pages one, two, three, four and five on this website, and I can be seen or heard reading them live on the Myself Live page (also on this site). There is also a Song page, which is a personal but very public project I am doing, using songs I wrote more than twenty years ago. And until now, not seen and heard.
I have been working for a few years bringing my poems to people in many ways, not least through my videos on YouTube and Vimeo, which from there are shared on FaceBook, MySpace, Twitter, Websites, Blogs and elsewhere, all over the world. Thats the power of the internet (good and bad). Which is at least free anyway.
I have Donated approximately more than sixty copies of my book to UK Libraries, including to the usual National libraries of England, Scotland, Wales and the Library of Trinity College,Ireland. There's even a copy in the Library of Congress - the United States National Library. My book is available in two thirds of English counties (ALL counties were offered a copy in 2010 and 2011). Some counties have more than one copy, such as Hampshire and Devon.
I have endeavoured to make it as freely accessible as I can, on a very low income. I have also tried, again on low income, to make other Donations of a couple or single copies to worthy causes. All creating a little positive, from such a terrible subject. So Donations have also gone to:
Bardaid, a RRRants initiative to bring non curriculum poetry to schools (several copies).
Occupy Wall Street Peoples Library (on it's way).
Finding our Voices Lending Library (run by survivors).
As well as Libraries, copies were donated or given too, survivors, reviewers and others.
And a copy sent, which will be placed, inside the Child Abuse Monument in Canada. I am privileged, that my work has also been used for this amazing project.
A MESSAGE TO UK LIBRARIES: I am more than happy to add a few more copies. ANY UK Libraries interested in a free donated copy, should message me here first via the contact page. I have managed to Donate every year since Publication in both 2010 and 2011. BUT due to a handful of libraries saying they will stock the book, but then not doing so after it was sent. I have to hold back on donating them unless contacted.
More Donations to follow in 2012.

Reviews on the back cover of my book
* NAPAC is the National Association for People Abused in Childhood. Helen has recently left NAPAC and I wish her all the best for the future. These reviews are on the back cover of my book:
“Every one of us is on a unique journey. In his book “Whispers From Within” John invites us to review the journey he’s been on thus far… showing us both the highs and the lows, the times of great sadness and the moments of hope and love. I am inspired by the raw vulnerability expressed by John within these pages – he holds nothing back in his telling of the truth. If we allow it to, this book will challenge us to be real with our emotions and just may be the key to unlocking our own whispers from within.”
Helen Munt, NAPAC Office Manager. *
“John Harrison has been through things that most of us would find difficult to believe. He has coped, if that is the right word, by expressing himself through his poetry and does so extraordinary well. Many people use poetry as a cathartic tool, but few reach the goal of touching others with the strength of their work. John does. You cannot help but feel the emotional pain and confusion of the torment he endured, from his abusers and those who were given the responsibility of helping him. Poems like ‘The Rock’ and ‘Consumed Within’ take us to places we would rather not go to, but the poetry is our guide and enlightener. He uses it to not only as a release and to make sense of himself, but also to raise awareness of the issues that many like him face.”
Tony Stringfellow -Author, Poet and Radio Presenter.
“Whispers from within is an insightful and emotional journey into the thoughts and feelings of a survivor of childhood abuse, who when the past begins to reveal itself, is further abused by a system that is supposed to be helpful and supportive. His poems and prose take you deep into the emotional pain he felt at the time. Johns poems have allowed me to have a clearer understanding of scars left by childhood abuse. John having survived, is now a campaigner breaking the silence to bring true Accountability, with Justice in mind.”
